There is a very large germanspeaking patchwork yahoo!-group named 'Quiltsterne' with more than 1400 members. Every two years there is a meeting organized somewhere in Germany by a local group of Quiltsterne. This year it took place in Gernsheim which is only 30 min drive from home. And this year I took part the first time.
The meeting place was a youth hostel at the edge of the town. About 123 women spent a superb week-end there with a lot of patchwork, quilting and chatting. Also workshops were organized which the teachers held free of charge. I choose a collage workshop with Ute Glück. I know her from a handquilting class we both attend a few years ago. Ute was a very good and patient teacher and she divided her time equaly between all the participants.
The second workshop was about sewing patchworkcloths. It was very interesting and there were a lot of general informations and tipps about piecing cloths.
Beside this was a big show'n'tell about quilts and another one about bags, cloths and other small items. They also mentioned that there is a trend that many quilters started sewing and knitting cloths. But when you have a closer look at the cloths available at the shops in my area, a lot of small brands disappeared, only the big brands survived and I often see someone with the same cloth in a different colour. So there seems to be a trend to wear more indvidual cloths.
Also part of the get-together was one room with boths of five quiltshops and a fleemarket.
I was at the get-together from Friday 18:00 til Sunday 13:00, but it felt much longer. The next get-together will be in summer 2009 in Xanten.
Tomorrow I will have a quilty breakfast organized by the owner of my- now closed – LQS and a few quilting friends.
