{WipWednesday} Crazy LogCabin

Heute vormittag gab es mal wieder ein kleines Zeitfenster zum Handarbeiten. Ich stricke zur Zeit einen Test, den ich noch nicht zeigen darf und nachdem ich gestern noch Tapeten abgekratzt habe, schmerzt mir heute ein bißchen die Hand. Deshalb habe ich mir lieber mal wieder was zum Nähen rausgesucht.

Den Crazy LogCabin habe ich mit meiner Tochter angefangen, damit sie mal an der Maschine ein bißchen Routine in geraden Nähten bekommt. Sie möchte sich für ihr neues Zimmer auch ein paar Sachen nähen und da sollte sie vorher ein bißchen üben. Leider hat ihre Begeisterung für das Projekt stark nachgelassen. Da es aus Spendenstoffen begonnen wurde, möchte ich es nicht einfach entsorgen. Also nähe ich es jetzt fertig.

Ich mag solche Projekte, bei denen man nur tut und nicht denken muss. Das gibt meinem Hirn immer die Möglichkeit unbeobachtet in irgendwelche Richtungen zu driften und da kommen immer gut Sachen bei raus. Einfache Socken stricken hat bei mir den gleichen Effekt.

This morning I had a small amount of time for crafting. I knit a secret test and yesterday I removed old wallpaper so today my hand hurts a bit, so I decided for sewing instead of knitting.

I started the Crazy LogCabin with my daughter to give her some routine for sewing straight seams because she wants to sew some items for her new room and I wanted her to get some practise at the sewing machine. But unfortunatly her enthusiasm disappeared. Because it was pieced from donated fabric I do not want to dump it. So I will finish it into a top.

I like these kind of project which do not ask for a lot of thinking. This gives my brain the chance to relax and wander in different directions and most of the time this ends up in good ideas. The same thing happens when I knit plain socks.

{UFO}{Patchwork} Rosenquilt

Das Ufo, das den Anfang macht, ist der Rosenquilt. Als ich bei den Kellerquiltern mit einstieg, habe ich bei meiner ersten Teilnahme am Stand in Dillenburg (beim Patchworktag) die Wundertüte mitgenommen. Das war dann wohl in 2012. Die Tüte besteht aus einem Rosenpanel und Stoffen der Serie Shadow-Play in verschiedenen Farben. Erstmal brauchte ich eine Idee und die fand ich in einem Patchworkmagazin und dann habe ich mit dem Nähen angefangen. Jetzt ist das Top ca. 100 * 120 cm, was aber viel zu klein ist.

Lange habe ich gerätselt, wie ich mit den vorhandenen Stoffen weiternähen soll. Dann habe ich es weggepackt. Dann bei einem früheren Versuch meine Ufos abzubauen wieder ausgepackt. Ich habe beschlossen, dass ich noch etwas von dem dunkelgrünen Stoff brauche und habe die Kiste wieder weggestellt. Stoff geholt, in die Kiste geworfen und weiter lagern lassen.

Jetzt ist Schluss. Die Kiste ist wieder rausgeholt, nochmal alles nachgerechnet und auch schon zugeschnitten. Die gelben Windmühlen werden im Rand fortgesetzt. Dann ist der Quilt immerhin 110 * 130 cm. Ich habe noch von dem gelben Stoff. Mal sehen, ob es dann für einen weiteren gelben Rand reicht.

The ufo that will be first in the row is the quilt of the roses. When I joined the Kellerquilter I took the lucky bag with me during my first attendance at the booth at Dillenburg patchworkfestival. 2012 I think. The lucky bag contained a panel of roses and fabrics of the Shadow Play collection in various colours. First of all I needed an idea. I found it in a patchworkmagazin and then I started piecing. The top is 100 * 120 cm which is far too small.

Long time I thought about how to continue with the leftover fabrics. Then I closed the box. When I started fighting ufos before I opend the box and decided that I need some more dark green fabric and closed the box again. Then I picked up the fabric, put it in the box and stored it again.

Now it is enough. I opened the box again, recalculated everthing and cut the fabrics. I will continue the yellow windmills in the border. The top will measure 110*130 cm. I still have some of the yellow fabric and I will check whether it will be enough for another border.

Streifenquilt–Basket Weave Strings

Ich habe mal wieder ein Quilttop für die Kellerquilter genäht. Es ist ein Basket Weave Sting nach Bonnie Hunter. Nähere Infos gibt es hier bei den Kellerquilter.

Jetzt ist ein Projekt auf der Sidebar verschwunden, aber es kommen schon wieder Neue dazu .

Mini Decki–Rhein-Main-die dritte und vierte

Mittlerweile gab es noch zwei weitere Nähstreffs, die von der Sabrina organisiert wurden. Einmal haben wir uns im eher kleinen Kreis in Nauheim getroffen. Das andere Treffen fand in den Räumen der evangelischen Freikirche in Groß-Gerau statt. Dort wurden wir sehr herzlich empfangen, viele Kirchenmitglieder (mit und ohne Nähkenntnisse) haben mitgeholfen und es gab ein leckeres Buffett.

MiniDecki–Rhein-Main–die zweite

Wie angekündigt, haben die Stoffschnippler Crumstadt auch eine Runde Mini Decki genäht. Die Inletts wurden im Vorfeld schon zerlegt, ebenso wurden die Stoffe schon zugeschnitten, so dass wir am Nähtreff ‘nur noch’ die Decken nähen mussten. 40 Decken in ca. 4 Stunden mit 10 Frauen kann sich sehen lassen.

Jetzt warten wir noch auf die Übergabe.

As annonced here, my patchwork group also sewed ‘Mini Decki’ (this is a charity project origin in Swiss and also working in Germany and Austria to welcome refugee kids with a quilt). The lining was prepared in advance and the fabrics were already cut. During the meeting we ‘only’ had to piece the quilts and made 40 in 4 hours with 10 women.

Mini Decki–Rhein-Main

Die aus der Schweiz stammende Aktion der Mini Decki ist in Nähkreisen schon sehr bekannt.

Über FB habe ich dann mitbekommen, dass die Koordinatorin für das Rhein-Main-Gebiet in meinem Dorf lebt und dort auch schon einen Nähtermin organisiert hat. Nachdem klar war, dass der Tag passt, habe ich mich ebenfalls über FB angemeldet.

Es war ein sehr lustiger Nachmittag mit Kaffee, Kuchen, guter Laune und ganz viel Nähen. Die ‘Produktion’ wurde eher industriell gehalten, damit so viele Decken wie möglich fertig werden. Die Inletts waren eine Spende vom Möbelschweden in Wallau und der Rest war gespendete Bettwäsche - gefühlt bergeweise, gut erhalten und für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei.

Ich kannte niemanden persönlich, aber wie das unter Näherinnen in 99% der Fälle ist, war sofort Chemie da. Die anderen Mädels kannten sich teilweise – aus dem Offline-Leben, vom Singen, von Mini Decki Nähtreffs in anderen Städten oder über die Flüchtlingshilfe.

Sieben Frauen waren den ganzen Nachmittag da und insgesamt fünf andere waren für ein paar Stunden da. Insgesamt haben wir 43 Decken komplett fertig genäht und weitere 13 Decken sind halbfertig.

Wenn ihr auch gerne Mini Deckis nähen wollt, dann findet ihr auf der Homepage von Mini Decki erste Informationen und einen Kontakt in eurer Region.( Die Koordinatorin für das Rhein-Main-Gebiet ist allerdings in Rheinland-Pfalz vermerkt). Die Mini Decki Deutschland Seite auf FB könnt ihr auch ohne FB-Konto anschauen.

Auch wenn ihr nicht nähen könnt, könnt ihr trotzdem bei den Treffs helfen, zB beim Zuschneiden oder Bügeln. Oder ihr bringt den Mädels (gebrauchte) Bettwäsche, Kuchen oder Naschzeugs vorbei.

Bei den Decken, die wir genäht haben, fehlt noch ein Label. Wenn das drauf ist, wird in Koordination mit der örtlichen Flüchtlingshilfe mit der Verteilung der Decken begonnen.

Am 01.10. nähe ich zusammen mit ‘meiner’ Quiltgruppe, Stoffschnippler Crumstadt, noch eine Ladung Decken.

In Bensheim/Heppenheim, Wiesbaden und Johannisberg (Rheingau) wird sehr oft genäht. Der nächste Treff in Nauheim findet am 31.10.2015 im Gemeindehaus der katholischen Kirche statt.

Preemie-Socken

Ich habe wieder einen Abnehmer für Frühchensocken gefunden. Daraufhin habe ich gleich angefangen alle Sockenwollreste zusammenzusammeln und stricke beim Fernsehen wieder fleissig.

Bisher habe ich immer mit einem 15 cm Nadelspiel aus Bambus gestrickt, aber wie man sieht, sind die Nadeln schon sehr verbogen. Im Wollladen habe ich jetzt 10 cm KnitPicks gefunden, die ich beim nächsten Paar ausprobieren werde.

I started knitting preemie-socks again because I found somebody who will give them to hospitals. I collected all my sockyarn leftovers and I’m knitting while watching television.

I always knitted with 15cm bamboo-DPNs but they are already fairly crooked. At my LYS I found 10 cm KnitPicks DPNs. I will give it a try when starting the next pair.

Fühlkissen genäht

Eine liebe Nachbarin von mir arbeitet in einem Seniorenheim mit demenzkranken Senioren. Wir haben schon über eine Nesteldecke gesprochen, aber deren Umsetzung wird noch etwas brauchen. Sie hat mir dann erzählt, dass eine Dame immer einen Korb mit Stoffstreifen bekommt, damit sie ihre Hände beschäftigen kann.

Da kam uns die Idee, schon mal mit Fühlkissen anzufangen, da diese ja auch schneller fertig sind als die Decke.

Gestern habe ich für die Puppe meiner Tochter genäht und bei der Gelegenheit habe ich dann gleich noch die Fühlkissen gemacht.

Die einen sind mit Kirschkernen gefüllt und die anderen mit Granulat. Jetzt gehen sie zur Erprobung ins Seniorenheim und dann schauen wir mal, wie sie angenommen werden.

One of my neighbours is working in a nursery home with dementia patients. We already talked about a snoozle quilt, but I still need some time to make one. She also told me that one lady has a basket with stripes of fabric to busy her hands.

While we talked the idea came in our minds to start with small pillows filled with cherry stones or granulate, because they are finished a lot quicker than the quilt.

Yesterday I pieced something for my daughters doll and because the sewing machine was set up I pieced the pillows afterwards.

Now they are on their way to the nursery home and we are curious how the seniors will like them.

How I tried to clean my studio

Two weeks ago I met Heike and gave her a pile of hearts for the heartpillow project. We met in Mainz and I had to carry a few things for her. I also wanted to give her some fabric for more hearts. I looked in my box with decoration fabric and found some and I decided to piece a Morsbag for Heike.

Last week I started to clean my studio and the adjoining room, where the x-mas-tree should be.
I found left over fabric from the Morsbag, went to my machine and pieced another two bags from that fabric. Next I decided to clear a box sitting on the floor. The box contained blue fabric stripes in different sizes - lengthwise and widthwise - of a long closed project from a member of my group. I decided to piece them together, look for a accompaining fabric and pieced another seven heartpillows. Next I found parts belonging to a purse, only one part war missing. I cut the part and pieced the purse.


It was a good feeling to have a few finishes, but needless to say that the cleaning doesn't make much progress...

After looking around in my tiny studio it becomes obvious: I need to fight my ufos and wips before I can start something new. (And I'm planning a KAL with Onlyangelika).

The next wip I brought to an end was a cross stitched cow I did for Kinderlächeln - the german branch of lovequilts.

Heartpillows

Issue 95 of the german patchwork guild magazine featured an article about Nancy Friies-Jensen, a danish nurse, who learnt about the heartpillow project for breast cancer patients during a congress in the United States. She brought the idea back home to Denmark and a lot of quilt groups are working on these pillow now.


A danish quilter living in Germany brought that idea into her group and they started to sew the pillows as well. And now it spreads word in the german blogesphere as well.

This post on Heike's blog brought that project back into my mind. I talked about it at my quilt group and we decided to bring some fabric and the pattern to the next group meeting.


While some of us were working on a ravelquilt the other part worked on the heartpillows. We managed to cut, piece and turn 23 heart pillows. Heike is working on a solution to find a sponsor for the polyfil.


Last Tuesday Heike came to pick up the pillows. We had a breakfast with Heike's delicious homemade jam, croissants, chatter, discussing dressmaking pattern, patchwork pattern, how to cast on a moebius scarf. We were very busy. Around noon Heike had to leave for work and I had to pick up my daughter from nursery school.
When I went into the basement to pick up some food for lunch I saw the pillows still lying there.
Heike will come back in October and before she will step in the house I will bring the pillows to her car that they can be filled and brought to the patients.
