SkillBuilder BOM–Block 1

Beim SkillBuilder BOM gab es immer ein Monatsthema, das dann in zwei Blöcken umgesetzt wird. Das Thema des ersten Monats ist Improvisation und der erste Block heißt Soundwave.

Die große Erkenntnis des ersten Blocks war, dass man Nahtzugaben auch mal auseinanderbügeln kann und die Verwendung von Sprühstärke. Das macht wirklich einen Unterschied. Ich habe sogar zwei Blöcke vom Gruppenprojekt wieder aufgetrennt, mit Stärke gebügelt und neu zusammengenäht. Was für ein Unterschied. Da Liz den Geruch nicht mag, hat sie sich Sprühstärke selbst gemacht.

Mein Block hat nicht ganz die erforderliche Größe von 12,5 inch, sondern ist in der Breite teilweise nur 12 inch, aber das gleiche ich dann beim Zurückschneiden des Randes wieder aus.

The Skill Builder BOM has a month’s subject which will be worked in two blocks. The first month’s subject was improvisation and the first blocks name is soundwave.

The big learneffects of block no one was that seamallowances can be pressed open and using starch in ironing. That realy makes a big difference. I ripped two blocks of the groups project, ironed them with starch and pieced them together. What a difference! Liz doesn’t like the smell of starch so she homemade her starch.

My block is not exactly 12,5 inch, the lenght is partly only 12 inch. But I will balance this out when I cut the border.

Skill Builder BOM–Die Stoffauswahl

Als ich Liz das letzte Mal besuchte, da hatte sie gerade den ersten Block des Skill Builder BOM aus dem Jahre 2013 vor sich liegen. Der BOM ging über 12 Monate – zwei Blöcke pro Monat. Der BOM wurde von Alyssa – A pile o’fabric – veröffentlicht und ist auch noch online.

Hört sich ja interessant an. Dann hat Liz mir die Unterlagen gezeigt. Für jeden Block gibt es eine Näh- und vor allem eine Quiltanleitung. Und Maschinenquilten kann ich ja so gar nicht. Liz zeigte mir noch einige Blöcke von Evi und sie suchte noch jemanden der mit ihr näht. Da war dann mein Widerstand gebrochen. Und auch Bente ist mit von der Partie.

When I visited Liz last time she had just finished her first block of the skill builder BOM from 2013. The BOM was published over 12 months – two blocks a month. The BOM was published by Alyssa of a pile o’fabric and it is still online.

Sounded good. Liz showed me the print-outs. For each block there is a piecing and a quilting instruction. And I’m very bad in machine quilting. Liz showed me a few blocks made by Evi and told me that she is looking for someone piecing with her. I agreed. And Bente is also piecing with us.
