Sockapalooza 4 – Socks arrived yesterday

Yesterday the postman brought a package from Brooklyn, New York . And it contained my fantastic socks which were knitted by Aileen from Pretty Pink Yarn. They travelled nearly three weeks because the package get stuck at the german customs at Hamburg. It not only contained the socks – made from Koigu KPPM 100 % Merino. The pattern name is Badcaul Karma and you can see it by My fashionable life. It also contained a lot of sweets, a I love NY pencil, green handkerchiefs, nail polish and liquid washing agent. Note that the butterfinger is missing on the pic because my son picked and ate it faster than I could take a picture.

I realy enjoyed the Sockapalooza 4. It was great fun to knit a pair of Jaywalkers for Karen of Froggin' knitter,

learn new sock patterns like
and receive a wonderful package from Aileen.

Thanks to Alison for organizing and I'm looking forward to the next Sockapalooza.

How many pairs I can make from one skein

I wanted to try to knit a pair of sneaker socks. So I tried one pair but the ribbing is much to long for my taste. So I finished that pair and gave it a new try. So I only knit a shout ribbing and I like the second pair the way they turned out.
After these two pairs 14 gram of yarn remained. This is enough to knit one pair of socks for a premature baby.
So the answer is that I made three pairs of socks from it.

My sockapalooza socks are travelling to my sockpal. She lives somewhere on the west coast of the United Stated. I hope my package will arrive safe and sound til next weekend.

Sockapalooza 4 - socks finished

Yesterday I finished the sockapalooza socks for my secret sock pal. I knitted a pair of Grumperina's Jaywalker socks. I know that Grumperina already published 750 pairs of Jaywalker socks, but my pal wrote me that she never knits socks for her own. I used Regia Africa colours in her favourite colours and I love the way they turned out. I hope my pal will love them too.

The only thing I don't have worked out yet is how to get them save and sound to the U.S.

Ark project on it's way to the next knitter

Yesterday I finished the last pair of socks for the Ark-project.

In total I knitted five pairs. Now the package is packed and on it's way to the next knitter in Germany.

I would like to thank Moni, who had the idea and provided us with the yarn.

I wanted to send the package with Hermes parcel service, because the fee includes an insurance for the whole parcel. On the website you can type in your ZIP code and a map shows you all the shops where Hermes service is offered. The next one to my home is a computer store in my town. I scrolled a bit and I find a yarn store I didn't know in a 4 km distance.

Now the parcel is on it's way and I can add three new balls of yarn to my stash. And maybe the yarn for my sockapalazoo pal is among them.
In the afternoon the postman brought a parcel from Amazon with two knitting books of Nancy Bush. The only thing I need now is some quality time for me.

Socks no 15 - Jaywalker socks

The first new pattern I practised for my sockpal's socks was Jaywalker by Grumperina.
I used Regia Canyon Colours Bambus and I like how it turned out. The ribbing turned out a bit to loose in comparison to the rest of the sock. The pattern is easy to follow. I still have some problems to understand the difference between k2tog and ssk. I liked the pattern of the heel and the way the turn heel (is this the correct word for the part of the heel you walk on?) is knitted. And I learnt the kitcheners stitch. I watched the video on knitting help several times and now it works out pretty fine.

The next pattern I'm practising is Monkey by Cookie A.

Sockapalooza Four – News

Dear Sock Pal,
thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
You can use each type of yarn that is comfortable for you. And it is no problem for when the yarn is not washable in the washing maschine.
I prefer to shop in little shops in my area and they are selling Regia and since a few week they also sell the rainforest collection of Opal. I also bought two skeins of yarn at handgefaerbt. The first socks I have been knitting were plain knit without any pattern because I used Regia yarn that pattered itself. After that I started to k5 p1 so that the leg is a bit more flexible.
I'm also knitting for a charity project (Arche) and I started some easy patterns. I never knit lace but I'm not the type to wear lace socks. Most of the time I'm wearing jeans and t-shirts, because that is the most comfortable cloths when you are having two kids.

I opened another email account and contacted my sockpal. We chat a bit and it was pretty hard not to tell anything about me.
The material of the yarn is pretty easy because she is allergic to most types of yarn. Her colour choice was very narrow so that is also not a big thing. Within the next days I will start to knit a pair of Jaywalker socks for me and see how the pattern looks when knitted with a yarn that makes stripes in various sizes. After that I will decide whether this pattern is okay for my pal or whether I better use another pattern.

Sockapalooza 4

I signed in for Sockapalooza 4 - the world wide sock swap organized the forth time by Alison of the blue blog.

Yesterday I got the name of my sock pal. Now I will read her blog and decide which pattern I will use for her socks. After that I will try the choosen pattern on socks for me so that she will get not test socks but properly knitted ones. The socks have to be sent on the 2nd of August but I have to send overseas so I have to be finished a bit earlier.

I also signed in to be knit a pair of socks for a swapper who didn't get socks at Sockapalooza 3. I will get a notice whether I'm within the next days.

Update: Dear sock pal. I will update my profile at alison to give you a more detailed measurement of my feet.
