Quilters' Blessings finally finished

Last week I finally finished my Quilters' Blessings Quilt.
As you may remember it was a BOM of 2008 designed by Bea Galler who blogs under capricorn and her BOMs.

I finished the top in Febuary 2009 already. I first thought about machine quilting the top, but first of all I not an experienced machine quilter and second a quilting friend asked whether I'm sure that I will quilt this wonderful handiwork with a machine. So I decided to handquilt, but I had no idea how to quilt. I didn't want to quilt within the blocks. I quilted in the ditch of the cream fabric and quilted around the blocks in the mid of the sashing. I also quilted the border only with straight lines.

Last weekend I stitched the label and now everything is finished.

Now I will take care about the missing blocks of Bea's last year BOM: Once upon a time ...

Redwork top finished

During the week-end I contacted a fellow blogger and asked her whether she is okay, because she didn't post for two weeks. And then I realiezed that my last post was two weeks ago.

In the meantime I finished my redwork top. I choosed shashing stripes in two differnent shades of red - I was inspired by Erika's layout.

I'm not quite sure about the quilting. I love handquilting but I can't think about pressing the stitched blocks in the frame. But machine quilting (which I have to learn first...)

Redwork blocks finished

The wonderful stitchery yarn of wildflowers didn't disappeared but I ordered some new one. (Good thing that my son can only read german and is not able to read my blog yet. I had never agreed to buy the same toy twice because one got lost).

I finished stitching the last blocks of Bea's Redwork BOM 2008.

Bonus 4

Now I have to think about the layout. On Bea's blog was the layout of Erika which I realy like. She stitched 15 blocks. I also made the additional bonus block and now have a total of 16 blocks.

more Redworkblocks finished

In the meanwhile I finished three more Redworkblocks of Bea's 2008 BOM Quilter's blessings.

October

November

Bonus 2

Block 12 and bonus 3 and 4 are missing. I planned to finish the blocks and the quilttop in January, but the last skein of wildflower yarn disappeared. So I will go on with another project and some day the yarn will cross my way in my tiny studio.

Bea already started a new BOM for 2009: Once upon a time.... Check out her blog for her new BOM and an overview of other stitchery BOMs.

Wip wresling

Last week I bought a new patchwork magazin about bags. But before I wanted to start piecing a little backpack for my daughter, I wanted to finish some ufos.

So I managed to finish the stitching of the July block of Bea's Redwork BOM.

And I finished another preemie set. One of my resolutions is to knit one preemie set per month. So that I have enough leftover yarn to knit preemie sets I need to buy more sock yarn and start another sock project. I just printed the pattern of the nutkin sock. Beginning of July I bought a skein of Regia Medina Colour which seems to be perfect for these socks.

Redwork BOM May and June

During the last days I managed to stitch the redwork blocks of Bea's Redwork BOM for May and June.

I also bought some equipment to make my 'redwork life' easier. First I ordered a lightbox to make the transfer of the pattern much easier. And I bought a tray that has a filling of styrofarm on it's bottum. I can put the tray on my thigh and have all my stitching materials in place.

Redwork BOM April

The April block of Bea's Redwork BOM is finished.
It was great fun to stitch it - as the other blocks were.
I like to combine patchwork and stitchery. I'm sure that this is not the last project I do this way.

Redwork BOM March

On Friday I downloaded the redwork pattern for March and immediatly started stitching. I finished it on Saturday evening and it was great fun. Instead of 'hearing' TV I listened to an audiobook which was more fun then listening TV. (I listened 'Ein Mann, ein Fjord', all persons are spoken by Hape Kerkeling, which only my german speaking readers may know).

So I decided to do this more often. If you have a recommandation for a cool audiobook - either german or english, please leave a comment.

Redwork BOM

When you read about the goals I set for January, you can imagine that I should be pretty busy.

But when I saw the redwork blocks at Quilty and Gwen I decided to take a closer look at the new blog of Capricorn that is specialized in BOM's. (You can find Capricorn's regular blog here).

I liked the design and so I decided to give it a try and traced the pattern and stitched with Anchor embroidery floss #47 which is bright red. I also found some darker red embroidery floss, so maybe I will use different shades of red.

Sorry for the bad picture. When I took the picture with flash the fabric was bright white and looked realy unnatural. When I switched off the flash the red of the floss looked pale.
