St. Nicholas Day Swap 2014–Teil 2

Dies ist das Päckchen, das ich aus England erhalten habe. Darin waren kuschelige Socken, leckere Minzschokostäbchen, Charms aus Weihnachtsstoff, feine Schokolade in Verpackung mit Handarbeitsmotiven, eine handgemachten Weihnachtsbaumanhänger, einen Schneemann und einen Schutzengel.

St. Nicholas Day Swap 2014–Teil 1

Nach ausschließlich guten Erfahrungen mit dem internationalen St. Nicholas Days Swap auf Ravelry habe ich auch in 2014 wieder teilgenommen. In diesem Jahr gab es nicht so viele Teilnehmer und noch weniger, die bereit waren international zu swappen. In diesem Jahr wurde dann verpaart und meine Swappartnerin kommt aus England. Sie hat nicht so viele Vorgaben gemacht und hat mir ziemlich freie Hand gelassen.

Bekommen hat sie ein paar dunkelrote Socken Korsika (Design Regina Satta) aus Jawoll Sockenwolle, ein Projektnotizbuch, eine MugRug, Aachener Printen, Dominosteine und Kuh-Karamell.

Because I only had postive experiences with the international St. Nicholas Days Swap organized on Ravelry I enrolled again in 2014. This year the number of participants was lower and the number of persons who where willing to send internally was even lower. This year the swapmom was pairing up the participants and my swap partner is living in the UK. She didn’t give many requirements and I let me decide what I want to knit.

I sent her some dark red socks ‘Korsika’ (Design by Regina Satta) made of Jawoll sock yarn, a project pocketbook, a mugrug, Aachener Printen, Dominosteine (german sweets you only get during x-mas time) and soft caramel.

Angle Paket

Ich habe dieses Jahr wieder beim St. Nicholas Swap bei Ravelry mitgemacht und mich bei der Anmeldung auch als Angle zur Verfügung gestellt. Leider sind bei diesem Swap auch wieder zwei Teilnehmerinnen untergetaucht. Eine davon hat sich seit dem bei Ravelry nicht mehr angemeldet und ich hoffe, es ist nichts Ernstes. Die andere Dame schreibt munter in anderen Gruppen, reagiert aber nicht auf Mails und Anfragen. Sie ist jetzt auf der Schwarzen Liste und wird zumindest beim St. Nicholas Swap nicht mehr zugelassen.

Da eine der leerausgegangen Swapperinnen in Deutschland lebt, hat mich die Swapmom gefragt, ob ich einspringen kann. Da ich ihr aber ein genau so schönes Paket machen wollte, wie es jeder Swapperin zusteht, musst sie sich ein bißchen gedulden. Ich habe es aber noch in 2103 geschafft.

Sie bekam eine paar Strümpfe (Primavera), ein Knäul Lang Jawoll und einen Ausdruck des Musters fürs Landlust-Tuch, Maschenmarkierter,  eine Morsbag, eine Tafel Schoki und die Anleitung, die auf ihrer Ravelry Wunschliste ganz oben stand.

This year I participated in St Nicholas Swap on Ravelry again. Everybody who signed in was asked wether she would be an swap angle when some one drops out.I agree each year and this year it was the first time I was asked to do so.
Unfortunatly two participants disappeard One was never signed in in a while on Ravelry and I hope that it is not a major isue. The other one is writing and chatting in other forums, but she doesn’t react one mails. Now she is on the naughty swapper list and she will never get a change to participate in st Nicholas Swap.

Because one of the concerned ladies is living in Germany the swap mom asked wether I can make an angle package for her. Because I wanted to make her a package as nice as it wasn’t a angle package she has to be patient a bit. But I made it wihtin 2013.

She got a pair of socks (primavera pattern), Lang Jawoll yarn and a printout of the Landlust Tuch, stitchmarker, a Morsbag, a bar of chocolate and the first pattern of her Ravelry wishlist.

St. Nicholas Day Swap 2013 – Teil 2

Das Päckchen, das ich erhalten habe, kam aus dem Bundesstaat New York.

Ich habe sehr kuschelige Socken bekommen, außerdem einen Strang Wolle, der beim Rhinebeck-Festival gekauft wurde, leckere Ghiradelli Schokolade, eine amerikanische Strickzeitung, verschiedene Hilfsmittel aus Kupfer (von Spindle Cat Studio) und eine singende Weihnachtskarte.

I get cosy socks, yarn bought at Rhinebeck, delicious Ghiradelli chocolate, a knitting mag, different notions made of coper and a singing x-mas card.

St. Nicholas Day Swap 2013 - Teil 1

Nachdem der St. Nicholas Swap letztes Jahr so schön war, habe ich mich dieses Jahr wieder angemeldet. Es gab eine neue Swap-Mom und bis auf zwei Ausfälle hat auch alles geklappt. Die Swap-Angles sind aktiviert und bald werden alle ein Päckchen erhalten haben.

Ich hatte die Ehre die Swap-Mom in Seattle zu beschenken. Sie swapt wohl sehr viel, so dass ihre Angaben sehr genau waren. Sie hatte sogar in ihren Favoriten Muster markiert, über die sie sich freuen würde.

Also habe ich eines dieser Muster verwendet und immerhin schon in der Mitte des zweiten Socken gemerkt, dass ich einen Fehler im Muster habe. Eigentlich werden die Bubbles mit rechten und nicht mit linken Maschen gefüllt. Außer den Socken habe ich ihr noch eine MugRug und eine Projekttasche (Marke machwerke) genäht und Aachener Printen und Dominosteine geschickt. Sie wollte ausdrücklich keine Wolle, aber unbedingt Werthers. Mit den Bonbons habe ich dann die Lücken im Karton gefüllt.

Das Päckchen musste mit Trackingnummer verschickt werden. Die Damen in der Postagentur waren sehr hilfsbereit und haben mir empfohlen einen Maxibrief per Einschreiben zu schicken. Mit 9,05 Euro für bis zu einem Kilo war ich da wesentlich günstiger als mit einem versicherten Paket.

After a lovely St. Nicholas Swap last year I joined in again. There was a new swap mom and beside two drop outs everything went fine. Two swap angles are working on additional packages and soon every participant will have her present.

The honour was on my side to prepare a parcel for the swap mon from Seattle. She seems to swap fairly often and she had a precise list of likes and dislikes. She shows some patterns on her favourites she would like to have.

So I choose one of the patterns and realised mid of sock two that I made a mistake but I carried on. (The bubbles should be filled with knit sticht but I made purl stitches). Beside the socks I made a mugrug and a project bag and sent her germany gingerbread and sweet dominoes. She didn’t want any yarn but Werther’s. So I filled the gaps in parcel with Werther’s orginals.

Ravelry Geburtstags-Swap

Ich habe in diesem Jahr am Ravelry Geburtstags-Swap teilgenommen. Eigentlich sollte das auch ein Ring-Swap sein, aber weil die Geschenke in einer Pappschachtel versichert verschickt werden sollten, habe ich meine Teilnahme davon abhängig gemacht, dass ich innerhalb Deutschlands verschicken kann und da war die Auswahl an Swap-Partner, die im Februar Geburtstag haben nicht so groß, so dass es dann ein Eins-zu-Eins-Swap mit Princess25 war.
Das habe ich ihr geschickt:

St. Nicolas Day Swap–Teil 2

In Teil 1 hatte ich schon gezeigt, was ich nach Wisconsin geschickt hatte.

Jetzt kommt das Paket, das ich bekommen habe. Es wurde von Christine in Wisconsin zusammengestellt.

Ein Paar wunderschöne Socken, zwei Stränge Sockenwolle von Spud&Chloe (Superwash Sockenwolle aus Wolle und Seide), eine Karte aus Wisconsin, Maschenmarkierer und einen Stift mit Wichtel.

St. Nicolas Day Swap 2012–Teil 1

Auf Ravelry wurde ein St. Nicolas Day Swap 2012 organisiert. Leider verlief der Swap etwas unrund, weil die Swap-Mom Mitte November verschwunden ist, aber es ist eine Teilnehmerin eingesprungen, hat zwei ‘Swap Angles’ aktiviert und jede hat etwas verschickt. Zwei Päckchen sind wohl noch auf dem Postweg.

Ich dachte, es handelt sich um einen Ringswap und das war es mehrheitlich wohl auch. Bei mir haben wir uns gegenseitig beschenkt, was aber erst herauskam, als mich meine Empfängerin anschrieb, ob sie mir noch etwas mitschicken soll.

Der Wunsch meiner Empfängerin waren glatt gestrickte Socken, die sie in ihre Wanderschuhe anziehen kann. Ich habe dann am Schaft ein leichtes Muster eingestrickt, damit die Socken einen besseren Halt haben. Außerdem hat sie sich mein Lieblingssuppenrezept und Naschzeugs gewünscht. Also habe ich meine amerikanische Nachbarin um Rat gefragt und sie hat Lebekuchenherzen empfohlen.

A St. Nicholas Day Swap was organized on Ravelry. The swap was not without problems because the swap-mom disappeared mid of November. But one participant jumped in, organized two ‘swap-angles’ and each member sent out. Two parcels are still in the mail.

I thought it would be a ringswap and it was for most of the members. But in my case it was a one-to-one swap which was disclosed whem my swap-partner contacted me whether I have a special wish.

My partner asked for plain vanilla socks she can wear in her hiking boots. I decided to knit a little pattern in the leg because the socks will wear nicer. She also asked for my favorite soup receipe and some typical sweets. So I asked my neighbour who is deployed and she recommended Lebkuchenherzen.

Weihnachtswichtel–Ravelry Sockenstrickgruppe

Dieses Jahr habe ich beim Weihnachtswichteln bei der Sockenstrickgruppe teilgenommen.

Ich wurde von lavendelkitten beschenkt und habe folgendes bekommen:

• wunderbar kuschelige Socken in beige
• ein Knäul Meilenweit von Lana Grossa in dunkelbraun
• Früchtetee
• einen Schokoweihnachtsmann
• und eine selbstgemachte Kreuzstich-Weihnachtskarte

This year I participated in a Secret Sister x-mas swap with the german speaking sockknitters group on Ravelry.

I got a present made by lavendelkitten and I got

Nadelkissentasch 2 / pincushion swap 2

Als ich von Hilde den Namen meiner Swappartnerin für den Tausch bekommen habe, bin ich vor lachen fast vom Stuhl gefallen. Es waren über 80 Teilnehmerinnen und Hilde aus Brasilien hatte ausgelost. Und wen bekomme ich?!? Onlyangelika.
Sie war bei meinem ersten Secret Sister Swap die Beschenkte und ich habe dann nie mehr teilgenommen, sondern habe Angelika als Secret Sister behalten.
Ich hatte mir schon ein Nadelkissenmodell ausgesucht, aber da ich Angelikas Vorlieben kenne, habe ich mich dann umentschieden und das Schildkrötennadelkissen von Heather Bailey genäht.

I nearly fell of my chair, when Hilde's mail with the name of my swap partner arrived. The swap had more than 80 participants and Hilde from Brasil draw the names. And who was my swap partner?!? Onlyangelika.
She was my partner the first Secret Sister swap I ever made. I didn't participate again because I kept Angelika as my Secret Sister.
I had already choosen a pincishion I would make for the swap, but I know Angelika's preferences so I switched to the turtle pincusion designed by Heather Bailey.

Nadelkissen ist da / Pincushion arrived

Am Montag ist mein Nadelkissen angekommen, das mir die liebe Monika aus dem Siegerland geschickt hat. Es ist etwas größer als gewöhnlich und es ist unheimlich liebevoll hergestellt worden. Mit vielen Stickerein und Yoyos. Das Nadelkissen kam zusammen mit einer Auswahl leckerer Trüffeleier und einer schönen Karte.

On Monday my swaped pincushion arrived, which was made by Monika from Siegerland.
It is a bit larger then usual and it was pieced with a lot of love. It has a lot of embroideries and yoyos. The pincushion was accompanied by a variety of delicious sweets and a lovely card.

Last year I paticapeted in 'Knit'n'sip 06' and got green wool and a pattern for these lovely wrist warmers. They are finished quite a while but I was lazy taking pics.

Knit'n'sip 6

I participated in Knit'n'sip 6 for the first time.

My pal that gets my parcel doesn't have a blog so I had to sent her several (anonymous) messages to get a better idea what she likes. She blogged about the parcel on the knit'n'sip blog here.

Hat swap top finished

Back in August 2007 I already wrote about the details of the hat swap.


One of my this month's goals was to finish this top. It's done. Only a few stripes were missing, but everything is done now. Next step is to thinks about the quilting. I planned to improve my machine quilting and I think about some help to enlarge the quilting area of my machine. I have a Pfaff select 1540 and the quilters kit doesn't fit for this machine. Maybe I find a customized acrylic table.

x-mas in April

Yesterday I received two packages and I felt a bit like x-mas.
The first parcel came from Denmark and it was the pincushion from the pincushion swap organized by Onlyangelika. Inger sent me a beautiful 'Abyquilt' pincushion and a brown batic fabric for my Baby Jane, which has been resting in a box for quite a long time. (You can see all the pincushions that where made for this swap here on Angelika's flickr page. )
Many thanks to Inger for the beautiful pincushion and the goodies.

The second parcel came from Gwen. I borrowed her 'wrap style' and 'scarf style'. She sent them back including two cream FQ and some cream scraps for my BOM of Faulengraben. And she sent me a skein of her favourite embroidery thread. Thanks Gwen.

Stars Swap - I failed

I signed up for a stars swap a while ago. The background colour should be cream and the stars should be all kinds of brown. This is my favourite colour combination and this was one reason why I decided to take part. The other reason is that I know the swap mom and I was sure that she is doing a great job.
The first problem I faced was the size of the blocks: 20*20 cm finished sized. Most pattern I found were 9-patches and this was a bit tricky with 20*20 cm.
Despite all my patterns were drawn correct and I worked hard on sewing on the line I ended up with two sets of blocks and all blocks where to small. Most of them were 21*21 cm unfinished instead of 21,5*21,5.
Today the blocks should have sent and yesterday I told the swap mom that I cannot make it. I'm not very happy with this and I hope that not to much participants do the same so that her swap will be a success anyhow.


I'm thinking about making a table runner out of my blocks. Or I will piece some more blocks in this colour combination in various sizes and make a wallhanging quilt of them.

Hat Swap Quilt

I should work at the Sail Away Quilt because our exhibition date in November is the latest deadline for this project. But I'm a bit frustrated. I wanted to applique the ships with the buttonwhole stitch my machine provided. I also made the paper for machine applique on the backside of the fabric but my machine has some problems with the big amount of seams. So I put the quilt away and digged out my hat swap blocks.

The swap was in 2004 where I was at the very beginning of patchworking. The subject was to make hat blocks. The problem was that I couldn't find any patterns on the web and in my books - beside sun bonnet sue hats and I don't like them that much. Jennifer – a quilter from Salt Lake who spent a year with her family in my area – designed a head on EQ5 for me. The only other thing that came in my mind was a crown. The blocks were accepted by the swap mom and I got back a lot of beautiful blocks. Appliquè a hat and add some embroidery never came into my mind.

The blocks were sitting in a box since then. Sometimes I picked them out and looked at them. Now I picked them out to make a quilt out of them. I decided to frame them with attic windows and sashing that the quilt look like a huge wardrobe of hats.
The last days I cutted the stripes for the attic window and sewed them on the blocks. Next thing will be the layout.

Four patch swap - Blocks arrived

Yesterday when I came home from a walk with my daughter I had a big, soft envelope in my mail-box containing the blocks of the four-patch-swap. Opening a swap return is like having x-mas.


I took part with 8 sets of 10. It always amazes me within fabric or block swaps how many different fabrics are out there. Some of the used fabrics were familiar to me because I saw them in a shop or in a quilt, but within in blocks there was only one fabric that I also have in my stash. An this within 100 blocks with 200 printed fabric.

I now have 80 blocks from the swap, 20 to 30 I made for the swap, but they were to tiny to get swapped. To make a quilt for an european bed for two (which is a bit smaller than a king-size bed) I need a lot more patches, but maybe there will be a chance for another four-patch-swap in future.

Progress with Four-Patches

I already cut the coloured patches for the four patch swap and I ordered some background fabrics. Every day during the week I made a little progress in cutting background fabric, starting piecing two patches together, iron them and piecing two two patches into four patche blocks. My baby daughter learnt how to crawl and now no space in our living room is secure from her. So I can't put the ironing board unattended and I only iron when she is not in the same room. Yesterday I finaly pieced all the blocks together and they are waiting to be ironed and then I will check whether the blocks have the correct size.



As I mentioned before my favorite local quiltshop closed and I find it very hard to order fabric online. Two times I ordered the wrong fabric because the picture shown on the screen was misleading.
There is one shop nearly 20 km from here, but they are not realy quilters. It is a big shop selling items for all kind of crafts. The quilts in display are made by a tailor and the assistants have no experience in quilting.
The owner of the shop I used to buy my quilting supplies is a quilter, she always had a helping hand, enough time for a chat, a steaming pot of coffee and some other customers with time for a spontaneous show and tell. What a difference.
You see I have to work on a solution for that issue.
