Ark project on it's way to the next knitter

Yesterday I finished the last pair of socks for the Ark-project.

In total I knitted five pairs. Now the package is packed and on it's way to the next knitter in Germany.

I would like to thank Moni, who had the idea and provided us with the yarn.

I wanted to send the package with Hermes parcel service, because the fee includes an insurance for the whole parcel. On the website you can type in your ZIP code and a map shows you all the shops where Hermes service is offered. The next one to my home is a computer store in my town. I scrolled a bit and I find a yarn store I didn't know in a 4 km distance.

Now the parcel is on it's way and I can add three new balls of yarn to my stash. And maybe the yarn for my sockapalazoo pal is among them.
In the afternoon the postman brought a parcel from Amazon with two knitting books of Nancy Bush. The only thing I need now is some quality time for me.

Socks no 13 and no 14

I was very brave and worked on the items on my to-do list.
So I finished pair of socks no 13 which is also the fourth pair of socks for the arche-project. This time I tried something different and I like how it turned out.

Pair of socks no 14 is made from my handdyed yarn that I dyed with egg-colours. The 'pattern' is k5p1 which makes the leg a bit more flexible.
I also finished the pucksack.

I also spent some time with my sewing maschine. I sew a pair of trousers for my son and there are two pairs of trousers which are waiting for some mending.

I realised that reducing computer time will leave more time for sewing, knitting and quilting. So I will try to spend more time on crafting.

Socks no 10 - third pair for the ark project

This is my tenth pair of socks I knitted since I've been counting on a list. I ordered the yarn online and saw a picture in a mail-order catalog. When I knitted the yarn the colours turned out a bit different. I finished them but I don't like them that much. So I decided to donate them to the ark project. The remaining yarn is enough to make a pair of socks and a hat for a preemie.

Don't be afraid that I don't have enough yarn for some socks for me. Nearly each time I visit the yarn shop I buy a skein and Angelika gave me one for my birthday. And maybe I just bought one a Handgefärbt. This weeks subject is 'Africa'.

Angelika's birthday was last week. I gave her a pieced sock roll where she can put all her knitting supplies she needs to take with her. Unfortunatly I forgot to take a picture, but you can see it on her blog.

I've got (snail)mail

When Clare the Dordogne Quilter asked the first time for blocks for her charity project Quilts4Leukaemia I sent her four blocks. She asked wether I would like to have a bag in return. I already have lots of bags - pieced and bought - I denied, but I asked her to surprise me with a postcard when she will visit the UK.

When Clare spent her x-mas holidays in the UK she forgot to take my home adress with her, so she sent me the postcard from France. I arrived last week but I forgot to post it here.
Clare, many, many thanks for the Canterbury postcard.

It reminds me of a wonderful holiday in South England in 2000. We started in Canterbury (our first B&B was Ashford Guest House owned by Sandy Noel, the daughter of the fotograph that accompanied the Mount Everest Crew of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine) and enjoyed this holiday in various B&B's, having breakfast with so many different interesting people and visiting a lot of beautiful places, having cream teas in the afternoon and enjoying delicious pub food in the evening.

BTW: The pink socks are the second pair of socks that I knit for the ark project.

Ark: first pair finished

On Saturday we visited my in-laws, which are living about 250 km from here. Depending on traffic, accidents and construction sites it takes 2,5 hours (on good days), but several times we spent 4 to 5 hours on the motorway. But this weekend it was no problem to make it fast.
I used the time sitting in the passengers seat knitting the second sock of the first pair I made for the ark project.
Yesterday I already started another pair, but we drove back in the dark, so there was no knitting possible.
Instead of knitting we listened to the transmission of the final of the world championship of handball, which Germany won.

socks for charity project

There is a charity project called 'Die Arche' (German for: the ark) in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich that takes care of streetkids. They provide the kids with food, cloth, coachings for homework, leisure activities and a lot of other things.

Moni asked knitters she knows, whether we would like to knit socks for these kids. She provides the yarn, but she won't be able to knit all by herself.
So she packed a box of yarn and sent it to me. I choose the colour, knit as much pairs I'd like to and send the remaining yarn and the finished socks to the next knitter on the list.

Because these are kids socks are small sized they are finished very quickly. The first sock is finished already and because we will spend some time in the car over the week-end I'm sure I will finish the second one soon.

Have a peek in the box:
